Original Pattern Muslin

Original Pattern Muslin

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Pant Fitting Techniques »

Instructions

This was my first true to pattern muslin fitting without any alterations.

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Casual

Materials

Muslin

What was your inspiration?

I would really like to learn to make a good fitting pair of pants.

What are you most proud of?

I did not give up :-)

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

If at all possible go through the entire course before you start to make alterations to the pattern. There is information given that would be useful before you begin to cut i.e. adjusting the grain line.

I'm curious to know what changes you made between the muslin and the final pair.

There were a few changes between the muslin and the final pair. I added a little more room in the croutch area. And Kenneth King had an article in Threads that mentioned how to make an adjustment for the baggy area under the butt which was very easy. I also had to take it in a bit at the waist and upper hip area.

You have done a great job. Are you posting pictures in classroom to get help with the fittings? Once you get the assistance for your fitting please re-post a picture of your final muslin :-) Thanks!

Yes, I plan to post the final. This is a post of the first muslin without any alterations. There have been several adjustments. I am amazed Imade it this far. Without this class I would have never attempted this.

Bravo for making it this far. I am not being critical just trying to learn by my next comment. I am wondering if the crouch is not to tight because of the way the fabric appears to be pulling? And if there isn't a tad to much fabric in the rear thigh? I also would like to make a pattern for a great fitting pair of pants and just want to get it correct. Just trying to absorb it all. I only hope when I give the muslin a try it fits as well as you have done.

Those look fabulous and really a good fit; you should feel really proud! I am still trying to figure out the cutting out instructions. Gosh as good a fit as those are hopefully you will keep the pattern as a master pattern and make more of these!
