Instructions
2 pieces 12x12" face fabric
2 pieces 12x12" curtain interlining or anything thats heat proof
1 piece 12x 12" lining
strips of fabric cut 3" wide for binding
in this order pin, tack or spary tack (your preference) your fabric sandwich
1 piece of face cloth, face side to table
2 pieces of interlining
one piece of lining pretty side up
I spray tacked mine!! lazy bones!!
now you can either free motion quilt on your machine or just do straight lines to secure the fabric sandwich
cut down your quilting to a size that fits your hand comfortably
I did 1 at 7" and 1 at 9"
Hubby has bigger hands..but you can also use it to put your pots on,, double whammy,, we like that!
cut your spare 12x12" square 1 inch bigger than your quilted square, then diagonaly to make 2 triangles.
Hem or bind along both the diagonal bits.
on the lining side of your quilting put both triangls almost touching (makes a pocket for your fingers)
and tack round.
trimm to fit your quilted sq and machine as close to the end as possible all the way round
cut strips of binding 3" wide ( make sure you have enough to go all the way round and a bit extra to tuck in)
press in half so you now have a strip that measures
1 1/2 " wide
sew your binding to the back of your mitts just over 1/4 inch all the way round ( have a look at utube quilt binding from Missouri quilt co.... fab site!!)
bring the binding to the front and sew a fancy stitch with your sewing machine or hand sew ( it shows just under 1/2"
make a loop by folding the pressed leftover bindings raw edges into the middle, so it looks like folded over bias binding
do same machine stitch as for binding , or hand sew
attatch to square with a button.
make sure its one that does not have the two edges butted together on the back that forms the envelope for your fingers.
you're done,,, looks better than shop bought and you can do table matts and alsorts to match.
hope you enjoy it as much as I did making them.

What was your inspiration?
my crafty class, free motion quilting a sampler.
I didn't want to waste all the practice samples Idid so I found a way to use them
What are you most proud of?
the free motion quilting, and the binding.
it was really hard quilting at first, my stitches were going everywhere but as they say, practice makes
perfect. The binding just makes it look so nice and very professional!!
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
go for it,, what have you got to loose???
HAVE FUN DOING IT
