Old Skool Tattoo Art Wedding Cake

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
The Hand-Painted Cake »

Instructions

I used cocoa-butter rather than a gel paste and spirit. I found this easier - perhaps something to do with the gel paste colours we get in the UK.

Difficulty:

Category: Cake Decorating

Type of item: Food

For: Unisex

Style: Hipster, Retro / Vintage, Romantic

Materials

Handpainted using melted cocoa-butter and petal dusts.

What was your inspiration?

Old Skool Tattoo Art - Wanted to offer something alternative, modern, but still feminine (with the brush embroidery roses and dots)

What are you most proud of?

The handpainting - I was so nervous about trying it until I followed this Craftsy class. Great class!!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Sign up to this class :o)

Try cocoa-butter as well. I personally found this easier to work with as the gel pastes were like painting with chewing gum (but perhaps thats UK products).

Don't apologize, i spent hours watching lots of online tutorials on cocoa butter and couldnt believe just how easy it is! I buy my cocoa butter in powdered form (I think its by Callebaut by I doubt brand matters). You then place it in a dish over a bowl of hot water. The hot water steams the dish, the dish war,s up and the cocoa butter melts (and stays melted). i them mix the cocoa butter with powdered edible colurs such as petal pa

Sorry, pressed retun by mistake... I mix with powdered colours such as petal dusts or craft dusts (ensuring whatever you use is edible or, if just non-toxic that the decorations will be removed before serving). Ever so easy!

Beautiful tattoo cake. I love how you painted the birds, old school style. Your colors are so vibrant as well. Great job.
