What are you most proud of? Helping people make the most of their treasured memories. This beautiful keepsake can be used every day, or hung on a wall for everyone to enjoy.

What advice would you give someone starting this project? If the ties are different widths, you will need to make them a consistent size before you start sewing. Open the tie backs up...they have a lot of fabric in them! Keep the points of the ties intact. You won't have to do anything to finish them...they are already finished!

Do you make these for people if we provide the ties?

Yes I do! If you would like a tie quilt made, I will need 21 ties. Email me at bobbi@spainb.com

what is the finished size of this quilt? and what lenght you cut the ties

03/07/2015 Flag

This quilt finished at about 60" square. I cut the ties at about 18" long...but they can be any length you want. Work from the inside of the quilt out... Determine the size of the center star, and then add on from there.

My doctor wants me to make 3 tie quilts by Christmas. He has 400 ties and wants to share them with family members. Any advice on making a full/queen size? He wants it to look like your quilt, can I make this with ties of different sizes as long as they are the same length? Any suggestions on the background? Can I use satin or silky fabric? What about cleaning the ties before or after the quilt is done?

Since you are going to open each of the ties up to lay flat, you can use different widths, because you will be cutting them to a uniform size. You can use satin, but it is slippery to work with. I prefer cotton and flannel. I like to think of the back ground fabric like a shirt that you would wear the ties with!

Do you wash your ties before using them in a quilt?

03/28/2015 Flag

No, I just wipe them with a damp rag if they are stained.
