This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Hand Quilting: Heirloom Design & Technique »

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Classic

Materials

quilting cotton fabric, polyester batting, Fusions hand quilting thread

What was your inspiration?

Leah Day's Wholecloth hearts design which I had totally failed to machine quilt so I used the piece to practice Hand Quilting after watching Andi's class. This was largely quilted without a hoop because I am still trying to make that part of the process work successfully and battling to get the stitch right. It will become a cushion cover when I have finished it and I plan to keep working on it

What are you most proud of?

Hand drawing the feathers by eye after my original pattern tracing totally disappeared! And not giving up!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Keep quilting.

this design was one downloaded from Leah Day's Free Motion Quilting blog (daystylesdesign.com). I tried (and failed) to machine quilt it - I am still practising this but not yet proficient which is why there are two different styles of stitching. I decided to complete it by hand quilting so it didn't turn into a UFO!
