What materials did you use? Material given to me by my husband's deceased grandmother...

Bad idea to start with this concept (center panel) for a first quilt. Too hard to get the blocks the right size to fit around the panel (thus the blue sash, which had to be uneven). I thought it would save me time but it was quite the opposite. Also my first attempt at paper piecing (thanks to Carol Doak's paper piecing class). Plenty of mistakes but it's been fun. I think I need to add more color but I can't find any more of the same blue...

Looking good to me. I agree a dash of blue would add more color. You could also use green in lieu of the blue. You don't need to match your blue either. You could use a shade lighter or darker.

In addition to your fabulous class, I purchased one of your books and that has been helpful. I think I will add a row or two to the top and bottom (I need queen size) plus a blue sash (that's even). I did a paper piecing teepee -- but that was a little advanced.

Could you use the Blue for the binding of the quilt? that way you don't need to get in a dither about how wide or narrow or whether it's uneven or not, but it still ties the whole together. It's also far enough away from your centre frame that a direct colour match or contrast won't spoil the whole quilt. Just a thought. p.s. I think you made a beautiful job of your bequest, Well Done.

@Essem Sween -- well funny you said that - I found enough of the blue material (that matched the sash around the panel) and made another 3" sash on the outside....I'll probably do a black binding so as to set off the blue even more. I'm not very good at colors or design, but I love trying.
