Martha Stewart Craft Extra Soft wool blend yarn in Petal Pink and Gerbera Daizy.

What was your inspiration?

I have found a rose pattern in one of my knitting books by Debby Bliss that looked so feminine and romantic. I decided to try it out and make something that could be decorative, yet functional at the same time. As a tea drinker and collector of tea pots I thought that a tea cozy would be a perfect object to experiment with. I also ended up having enough yarn to make a potholder to go with it.

What are you most proud of?

The intarsia knitting technique is not my forte, and yet the end result was better than I expected it to be. Also, I wanted to make the cozy in one peace to avoid seaming. Since I was not following a pattern, it took a bit thinking and planning to make sure that the cozy would have the two side openings, and the flower motive would be symmetrical on each side.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Dont be afraid to experiment with new techniques and play around with yarn to create as you go, even if you do not have the final product in mind. Just start with something on a smaller scale that would not require a big time and money commitment.
