Correction: I stated that it uses 500 yards of thread. It is more like 350-400 yards.

To Vic16: Yes, I use a regular sewing machine, with the regular zig-zag foot. It does fit under the foot. I use a denim needle size 100/16 and quilting thread or heavy thread. I set my tension at 6 or 7 and my stitch width at 5 and stitch length at 4.

When you say clothesline do you mean the rope type like venetian blind cord or more like the plastic coated type of clothesline?? I love these and have made a lot of baskets in this sort of coiled shape out of wire, but never something like this and would love to give it a go - thanks for sharing them all they really are beautiful!

Thanks! It is braided cotton clothesline(like a rope). I use the 3/16" size. I buy it in 100 feet packages.

thanks for your response I will have a look for this sort of rope! Do you just use a regular sewing machine?? I'm not sure this would even fit under my sewing machine foot?

Are these baskets expensive to make? I always wanted to make one. They are simply beautiful!

The clothesline cost about 9.00 or 10.00 And it depends on what fabric you use for the cost of fabric. A lot of people just use up their scraps.. And it uses about 500 yards of thread. I use a 100/16 denim/jeans needle on my machine, which needs to be changed after making a big basket or a couple smaller ones.
