Materials

Re purposed coffee sack for the outer bag and SchweSchwe for the lining, Webbing for the strap, Webbing and D-rings for the closure.

What was your inspiration?

To make a Bag (Cross Body Bag) out of a coffee sack.

What are you most proud of?

The Bag turned out very nice and I think it looks beautiful.

I was also thinking Suzaan to maybe iron on some interfacing to the backside of the burlap to help make it stronger because the coffee sacks that I picked up are weaved with even larger holes...what do you think?

The bias binding took some time to practise, but is getting better. The problem with interfacing is that it tends to come loose after a time and make some "fluff" that will come through the jute. I work the jute material onto a backing material with a lot of rows of stches and I also zigzag round the edges.Some people want to carry the bag everyday, so I want to combine the jute with denim. I will post some photos when I'm finished.This was a learning curve -I am used to my sewing sewing last for years so to sew something that shows some wear ane tear after a few months was traumatic for me because some people in the town I stay bought bags.My cofidence will grow again while I learn more - I like challenge and I took this one on. Absolutely it looks beautiful! It took a long time for me to complete the one I made and I'd love to try and make one similar to this without the trim that I added to mine. Great Job...very nice bag. :)

Thanks. After a few months I discovered that the fibers are braking where I turned the bag and the flap inside out. When you carry the bag everyday the jute also tend to come loose - so I sew a lot more stiches along the edges. After a long thinkng and Internet session I decided to sew bias binding round the edges of the flap and top of the bag. I carry my jute bag everyday and because of that I learn a lot about the material.You can see the bags with the bias binding on my blog..
