What was your inspiration?

this class

What are you most proud of?

I managed to do this entire quilt with 12 fat quarters - this means a pieced back as well as a very pieced binding! But this also means I had very little leftover scraps. Since I can't seem to quilt a straight line even on small motifs, I have decided to embrace wonky - at least it doesn't look like a computer guided machine did it!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Do as she says - keep those pieces organized. Even then, when I got down to the last 5 squares I had to spend some serious time on my design closet door to get the 11 different fabrics placed properly. Maybe it would have worked if I had just continued to grab different fabrics from the piles but I got nervous about ending up with the last block containing 2 of some & none of the other fabrics.

Darns! It's Alyx... cruising through some of the other Craftsy classes. And, my favorite low volume quilt is this one! Imagine my surprise when I opened it up and it was YOU! This quilt is Very Cool. I won a free Craftsy class as a door prize -- so I'm looking around...

Hi, Alyx, thanks a lot! Craftsy has a lot to choose from - so many good ones (LOL - I should know, being a Craftsyholic!).

Very nice! Seems a shame that only the dogs are currently using it. I like your quilting choice

This quilt is only 30 x 40 in so not a real useful size. But I do want to make one that is more lap size. Finding 11 different background fabrics that I like is a challenge though - I know I could repeat but - - -

Thanks a lot! This little quilt is now being used by my brother & sister-in-law as a couch protector for our dogs (they worry about getting their leather sofa scratched by dog nails).

Very nice. Like the red accents, most at the binding! And the wonky quliting is lovely. Looks awesome!!!!!

Thank you! Since I had to use a lot of pieces for the binding, I just about had to include the red. My box quilting might have had straighter lines if I had put up the back table of my sewing cabinet. As it was I got the quilt a little crowded against the wall & that's when my lines get weird.

I love your colorway, Darns. I don't have grey in my stash and was thinking of using a simular colorway.

Thanks! I couldn't find enough grays and thought the creams would work especially with the red fabric. Not exactly the modern aesthetic but I decided to go with it anyway - I like how it turned out.

So much work. Not a huge fan of modern, but this could change my mind. Enjoyed reading about how you did it. Inspiring

Thanks, surfside6 - I do like the minimalist look of the modern quilts but find enough solids and background fabrics that read as solid is not easy.

Thank you, Cherine! The quilting really didn't take as long as I anticipated but then the quilt is only 30" by 40".

Great that you have only used fat quarters - love the pops of red and the quilting really sets is off. Well done

Thanks a lot, Beth! I was debating between the more geometric quilting I did do and doing something with more curves. Geometric won!

What a very pretty quilt. I would own this in a heart beat. Your colors great & your little pops of red, WONDERFUL. Your quilting is perfect, it sets the whole quilt off beautifully. GREAT QUILT. Thank you so very much for sharing.

Thanks so much, Pamillia! I was thinking of using gray fabrics but couldn't find 11 of them I liked at my local quilt shop.

Thank you, Elizabeth! I really like this way of doing the blocks - even though I felt organizally challenged!
