Long Fitted Dress in Blue

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Hand-Embellishing Knit Fabric: Stenciling, Appliqué, Beading and Embroidery »

Instructions

I couldn't find the color of jersey I wanted so I dyed two colors and they didn't come out perfect, but they will work! I think next time I will purchase an airbrush as using a spray bottle gets a bit painful after awhile.

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Casual, Romantic

Materials

This is the Long Fitted Dress from Alabama Chanin's book "Alabama Studio Sewing + Design". I hand dyed cotton jersey and used fabric paint for the stencil, button craft thread for the applique

What was your inspiration?

All the beautiful garments in this book! They are stunning AND look so comfortable :)

What are you most proud of?

The color blue I managed to get! This is the first time I dyed cotton, I have done a lot of dying before but it was using protein fibers (wool, alpaca, silk, etc)

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

swatch swatch swatch and allow plenty of time to complete

This is beautiful! I love the colors. I am waiting for my pattern. Did you buy the cotton from AC? If so, what colors did you use? Thanks!

Did you use any textile paint, so you know exactly where the appliques go? It's really beautiful, by the way!

Thank you :) I did use textile paint, it doesnt show up in the pics well. Its a blue green thats the same value as the lighter blue so there is just a hint of color. I really like how it looks but I do need to use a white chalk pencil to mark around the shapes unless I am working in really good light!

Really beautifully done. I don't suppose you would be willing to tell us what colors the two blues are?

I would love to tell you but I dyed them last summer and didnt keep records. I believe I used Navy Blue and maybe Royal Blue but remember I did overdye them because the color didn't seem to pop as much as I wanted.
