What was your inspiration?

I used this free tutorial/pattern by ModKid called Sunny Days Tank top.

http://www.babylock.com/spring/pdf/SUNNY-DAYSTANK-byMODKID.pdf

What are you most proud of?

I finally got to do a project using lettuce hems. I've still got to trim the threads but I couldn't wait for my little girl to try it on. She loves it.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

For some reason, the shirring on the straps didn't gather that much like the bodice. So the straps are not as curly (gathered) like in the pattern's picture.

If the straps are made on the straight of grain they won't "lettuce" as much because there's no stretch like on the cross grain. It's not you, it's the fabric! What a sweet little model you have! Love the dress.

As far as the amount of curl to the straps: the amount a knit "curls" for the lettuce depends on the knit. From the picture of your little girl's dress, it appears that the body was cut on the opposite grain as the straps were(based on how the polka dots are patterned by color). From a personal experience in sewing a child's knit nightgown I found out that the lettuce wave does not work the same on the lengthwise grain and crosswise grain which results in a very different amount of curl! Either way, your daughter looks delighted with her new garment!
