chosen fabrics-which thread to use???

This project was made as part of a Craftsy workshop:
Lemoyne Star Quilted Trivet »

Instructions

Right now, I need help deciding what color threads to use to sew the pieces AND to quilt! I only have a picture of the fabrics I want to use...hopefully this will come through ... will love to share the finish project!

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Traditional

Materials

cotton fabrics and batting as suggested by pattern, chose fabric color to coordinate with recipient's colors -- red, gold, blue

What was your inspiration?

My son's home has these colors so I wanted to try using them. There was a green that didn't make the cut ;-)
I wanted to do it as a gift to them.

What are you most proud of?

Choosing to use the matching thread colors ... a bit challenging, with changing out the threads every time I went to a different point. When it came to choosing the edge color-the backing color did nothing to the front. So with my husband's help, we chose the blue ... I think it came out quite well. Yes, husbands can help and can have good ideas! ;-)

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Have fun! There's so many choices of combinations. Others have adapted the size & such of this pattern, but I'm just fine with the way it is.

I'm selling a few on Etsy.com, on the shop called TurningsEtc. My husband does woodturning, so it's mostly for him, but I can try a few things too.

Love it. I think I might borrow your quilting pattern. Love the way it looks on both front and back.

I did! I hope I can share pictures, but can't always upload them... I chose a yellow thread for the back and matching colors for the star points. The colored thread peaked through in a couple of places on the back, but all in all, I think it came out great! I was going to use the backing for the edging but didn't like it, so chose the blue and I think it was a good choice! Photo0555.jpg

Great fabric choices. As for threads ... I would go with an old gold & I think that it would accentuate the star beautifully. It would also pull out your blue & red really well. The gold I am thinking about is that deep gold in the large piece of your fabrics. Please show us what you finally used & your final creation. Have fun.

you are talking about the quilting color, correct? I think that would work. What color to use for SEWING the pieces though? There will be reds that will be sewn together as well as alternating gold & blue. It'll be a gift so I don't want to mess it up!

Yes,old gold for quilting. For me, I would sew the reds w/red thread & the blues & golds w/your blue thread. This will mean a lot of chainges in threads or you could use a clear poly thread. All will work. Yes, I know how you feel about not messing up. :-)
