What was your inspiration?

I was following a course in textile design using colour. We were asked to select an artist whose style we liked. I chose Monet as I liked the soft focus of the impressionist painters. I was looking for a way to translate this style to a patchwork design and found the Pictures to Pixel course. I experimented with the technique and found that it fitted perfectly with the look that I wanted to achieve.

What are you most proud of?

I had to examine my source picture to analyse the colours. I then had to mix the dyes to achieve the colours in my picture. As I had never done this before I was very pleased with the results.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

If you do not want to dye your own fabrics you can easily get the colours you want from a good patchwork fabric supplier.

Yes, it's a leaf with a pink edge and an acid yellow centre with dark green veins. I love the way that it turns into a heart when it's pixelated. I just bought the couple of colours that I didn't manage to dye so I'll be cutting and sewing shortly!

I saw a strawberry at first as well. I think it looks very neat though.

When I first looked at it, I thought strawberry. Then i thought heart. Did not get the leaf until I read the title. I like the colors.
