Lace front Scoopneck tee

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Sewing With Knits: 5 Wardrobe Essentials »

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Casual, Romantic

Materials

jersey knit fabric, vintage lace

What was your inspiration?

First I thought I needed a plain black tee for my wardrobe, then it just seemed too plain. I found this vintage lace that a friend gave me and it did the trick. I put on the lace using a straight stitch before attaching the collar/neckline piece. I used my coverstitch machine to finish the hems on the sleeves and bottom edge.

I have made 3 Sorbetto tops and the Clover pants. I haven't made any dresses yet but I like the Hazel a lot. I used the sewalong instructions and cheat sheet for the Clovers and they were really helpful. I have just joined the Jeanius class (which I'm terrified of, lol) and I would love to try Gertie's Starlet jacket.

Hey, I joined Jeanius too! I need to get some silk organza for that class, and also find a good pair of jeans to copy of course. I love the idea of it! I'm also enrolled in Gertie's Bombshell Dress course, which I hope to get around to before next summer. I love all the Craftsy classes!!!

Love it!. What a great idea to add the lace. I would like to make one with the ruched effect around the neck or down the front, have you see them done with the same fabric? I will have to find a tutorial for one.

Yes, I know what you mean. That would look very nice! I like how basic pieces are like a blank slate which can be embellished. I made a tank top over the summer and I put it on my dress form and started adding to it different ideas. I chose to use a pleated ruffle halfway around the neckline. The post is here: http://kdmullen.blogspot.com/2012/04/spring-tops-2-3.html in case you want to see what I mean.

I like the embellishment you made for your tank top. You're right, they really enhance the look of a plain t shirt. I see you are also a lover of Colette patterns, I am going to put the Jasmine on my Christmas list.

Yes, I do love Colette patterns!! My favorite is the Peony Dress. I recently made a Jasmine top and then made one for my mom. Have you tried any Colette patterns ?

Thanks! These projects seem like instant gratification compared to the lengthy muslin fitting of sewing with wovens. I do like to do those too, but sometimes I like to crank out a bunch of quicker things. I have another Surplice dress almost done. What are you sewing next?

Really cute. Great idea to add the lace. Wow can't believe how many of the students from Megs class are posting new projects. Guess once we are over the fear of knits we go crazy. LOL

Yes, we do! I'm a cheater, I've been working with knits for a few years. I signed up for the patterns, you can't go wrong with some basic patterns for knitwear. These seem to be very flattering shapes. I can tell Meg put lots of effort into the designs.
