Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Sewing With Knits: 5 Wardrobe Essentials »

Instructions

McCalls Pattern M6284 Rated EASY KNITS.

Once you pick pattern size based on high bust still check the pattern measurements before you cut. I ended going down (1) size.

Really nothing special of note just make sure you follow all the instructions provided by Meg in the lessons.

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Cute, Romantic, Casual

Materials

I used a navy lighty weight jersey which has silver threads woven into fabric. Polyester - Sew Macine Wooly Nylon Thread - Serber Wooly Nylon - Cover Stitch

What was your inspiration?

Thought this top was cute giving the illusion of a shrug over a tee.

What are you most proud of?

That I am working with knits and using my machines.
Tough to wait the 24 hours to hem items but haven't had any trouble with uneven hems so guess I can wait.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Take your time

Will post a picture of top on a body or my dress form so details can be seen better. Late and no one around to take picture. Thank you to my daughter for modeling.

This is the pattern I've been lloking for!! When you can't find that top that's "just right" with what you're wearing, this looks like the one!

Beautiful fit! Could you explain more about the changes you made to the fit of the top? I too buy patterns according to the high bust measurement, but then have to do a fba. I am learning more about it. You said you used a 16 and then added 3" - was that total? in the center front? 1 1/2" per side? I don't have the pattern yet, and this may become apparent when I do. Love the way it fits!

I cat a size 16 and added the 3" to the length of the front bottom bodice piece. NO FBA needed just gathered the centre front piece and confirmed fit.

The top looks beautiful, fits perfectly and so nicely sewn. My next project is Meg's knit class. I haven't sewn with knit fabric before but I am looking forward to the challenge.

Scheri, This tops looks great! How did you double check the pattern measurements after choosing the pattern size based on bust size? I'm very petite and most patterns tend to be too big and I'm hesitate the choose a size. The patterns from Meg have fit well though.

Sew4us - I pick my pattern size based on high bust measurements (with knits). Once I have cut the pattern pieces I do some quick flat pattern measurements.

I pick my pattern size for knit tops or dresses based on my high bust measurement. This ensures that you get a good fit on your upper body such as neck, shoulders and arm holes. Once I cut the pattern pieces out I then check some measurements.

Thank, Scheri for finding this pattern for me. I found it (and have already ordered it) on Amazon.com (can you believe Amazon has patterns?? I didn't know that) It was about the same price - roughly $8. I also wanted another item so it shipped for free because my order was over $25 in total.

How old is this pattern? I am trying to locate it on the McCalls website. Even in the "out of print" section there is no listing for pattern 6284 or M6284. Any help would be appreciated. I really like this pattern and would like to make it for my daughter's wedding.

Wow I only started sewing again 17 months ago so the pattern could have been bought maybe two years ago. But yes hard to find but I found you one. If you cut the address below and paste into browser.

Scheri, I share your enthusiasm for sewing. I have actually been sewing for 40 + years. I can't get enough of it. I am really enjoying the Craftsy Classes. I think I have signed up for several that you have signed up for. I am going to work on the knits class now. It felt good to finish a complete project. Thank you for your encouragement.
