Instructions
I made the pattern up and there was no real counting of anything. I gave it to a friend who has a Kindle Fire and she said it fit perfectly. This pattern can be adapted to just about any portable electronic device, so get creative! :-)
1. Measure - Start by measuring your device and add a few inches to the height to allow for the flap and the scallop edge.
2. Make your foundation chain - You want to chain stitch until your chain is as long as your measurement for height, including the flap, but not the scallop edge.
3. Crochet - Turn and single or double crochet (your choice) all the way across. Turn and repeat until the work is as wide as your width measurement. At this point, I like to stop and do a fitting of the work before I continue. You can add more rows if you need to.
4. Add the Accent - Add a single row of shell stitches along the flap edge using an accent yarn.
5. Placement - When you are confident the piece is the right size to fit your device, the next step is positioning the device. Sort of wrap the work around your device, so that the edge of the work comes to the top edge of the device. The flap should then fold over nicely.
6. "Baste" the seams - Once you like how the work was laying and looking, use stitch markers to sort of pin the sides together to hold them in place.
7. Lace the seams - Starting at the bottom fold, lace or weave your ribbon up the seam, finishing with a knot at the end. Repeat on the other side.
8. Attach the fastener - I braided three strands of the accent yarn together and made a wrap style tie that will wrap around the button to secure the flap. Cut 3 strands of equal length accent yarn, and if you wish, add a bead to the end of each strand, and tie a knot to secure. (It's hard to tell but there are beads on the example pictured). Knot the three strands together at the top and braid them, securing the braid at the bottom with another knot. Sew the braid to the inside of the flap, paying attention to placement and slack needed for wrapping.
9. Attach the button - play around a bit with the wrap tie and button to get an idea of where you want button to be placed. Mark that spot with a straight pin. Sew your button using a needle and thread.
10. YOU'RE DONE AND YOU ROCK!
Alterations for this pattern...
You could also forgo the flap and it would be more of a pouch style that your device can easily slide in and out of. In that case, just measure the height of your device and multiply by 2, chain stitch until you've reached that length.

What was your inspiration?
This is the third one of these I've made and I just have fun with them. They are a fast and easy project that are great for using up the last of a skein.
What are you most proud of?
My friend loved it and I love making people happy.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
I like to use a thick, soft and chunky yarn because I fell it gives whatever device you put in it a little more cushion and protection from knocks and dings. Also, they make a really great gift.
