Katelyn's "Sweet Pea" dress

Pattern Info

Pattern info for this project can be found here:
Infant Day gown from Sewing Classic Clothes for Children by Kitty Benton. Sadly, out of print

Instructions

New safety standards prohibit a draw-string at the bottom, so I just skipped any kind of closure. It's long enough she won't kick it open.

Practice your smocking stitches first! Check the finished sizes. I'd envisioned this as the dress she'd wear the first time they brought her to church, but it's way big! And I'm not talking about just the length!

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Infant/Baby

Style: Retro / Vintage, Traditional, Cute, Classic

Materials

Swiss batiste from Martha Pullen, DMC embroidery floss.

What was your inspiration?

A first granddaughter, and the memory of all the smocked dresses my mother had done for my girls.

What are you most proud of?

It was the first time I did a pattern from a grid, and the first smocking I'd done in YEARS!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Enjoy the nostalgia and go for it!
