I modified this with my own choice of yarn; used a V-stitch & sized it to my sister-in-law; added a cuff, modified a few other sections of the pattern. This is what I do - take a basic pattern or look that I like to get the foundation, then modify the heck out of it.Difficulty:

Check with the person first to be sure they will wear it. No sense making something they won't use.
