This most recent pair was made in Tilli Tomas Sock yarn, 90% Merino wool 10% nylon, color Dusk 100. But I've made these (and other customers have made as well) many, many of these socks in all sorts of other brands/generic and even handspun wool-blend yarns. It is a classic that survives the times.

As a male knitter it is often times difficult to find a pattern that has style, and interest to last not only through the knitting process, but stands up to the test of wear. So I've been looking for a good 'dress sock' pattern for a while. THIS IS IT! The Johnny Sock is not only good looking, textured in design, but fun to knit up. And the price is very reasonable ... I plan on making many of these - to go with all my suits - and not only for myself.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Sized for adult large. Planned leg height (top of heel to top edge of cuff) is approximately 7" including 3" of ribbing. 400 yards fingering weight yarn. 8 sts/inch, size 1 US /2.25 mm needles suggested. Pattern includes both charted and written stitch instructions.
