Janelle's Wedding Cake

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Handcrafted Sugar Flowers »

Instructions

I used the Handcrafted Sugar Flowers class as an inspiration to do my daughter's wedding cake. I made sugar orchids, hydrangias and calla lillies.

Difficulty:

Category: Cake Decorating

Type of item: Food

For: Other

Style: Classic, Romantic

Materials

Gumpaste, gumpaste tools, wire, petal dust, floral tape, food color, flower cutters.

What was your inspiration?

PURPLE!!!!
Everything had to be purple at my daughter's wedding....it is her color.
I was able to do a few different shades of purple with some green ivy leaves to tie everything together. I also made a few different types of flowers from the class to add to the arrangements.

What are you most proud of?

I am very proud that the flowers came out so well. I received lots of compliments at the wedding.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Practice, practice, practice!! You need to practice a lot to get as good as you can and to get comfortable with the technique of making gumpaste flowers. It is not something that you can learn over night. It takes time....be patient.
