What was your inspiration?
I started with a 1938 High School graduation photo. I created a fantasy piece to show what Irene did with her life. The art card is all cut and paste--just kept adding bits and bobs until I thought it told a story. The sunglasses were cool to make; I painstakingly cut out a snazzy pare of glasses from a magazine, sized them on a copier, laid the glasses over a bit of sheer green ribbon on top of the photo so the eyes showed through, copied that then trimmed out just the glasses and laid them over the face. The hat is a photocopy of a cool, handmade doll's hat from my stash.
What are you most proud of?
Irene was a classmate of my Husband's Mom and one of a set found in her papers after she passed away. No family member knows who any of them were. I wanted to save the history of a bunch of photos that would have just been tossed out. I LOVE old photos--I want to create stories for those mystery people frozen in time.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Find old photos and just PLAY, PLAY, PLAY!!!!!!
