What was your inspiration?

The moment I saw my younger sister's ballet costume I knew I had to convert it into an Ice Fairy costume. My sister Melanie and I worked hard to get the concept fine tuned. we did some trial makeup sessions and redesigned the crown and wings a few times. Melanie made the wings out of wire and nylon stockings. she also painted and embellished them withe glitter and rhinestones. The crown was made from ice sickle ornaments and wire and of course more glitter. I was in charge of hair and makeup. I braided her hair the night before and wove it through the crown the day of. We used hair paint spray to whiten her skin and blue her hair topped off with yet more glitter. I attached ears and then painted them to match her makeup. Melanie embellished the costume to make icier.

What are you most proud of?

The WHOLE thing! She looked wonderful! Over 70 people asked her to take her picture and she was so elegant and fanciful. We won 3rd place in the fantasy costume contest out of 77 entries.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Don' be afraid to go over the top. Sometimes its worth it!
