Materials

This is a 5-tier celebration cake for a wedding-themed party. Three tiers are chocolate cake filled with whipped ganache and the other two are red velvet cake with almond creme. All the cakes are covered with homemade marshmallow fondant and decorated with gum paste decorations. I included techniques from Advanced Fondant Techniques and Handcrafted Sugar Flowers to complete the design.

What was your inspiration?

This cake was inspired by Marina Sousa's design in Advanced Fondant Techniques and the filler flowers from Handcrafted Sugar Flowers by Jacqueline Butler. The cake was for a wedding-themed party for very close friends of mine.

What are you most proud of?

Stacking the cakes was really fun! Using Marina's techniques I was confident the cake was sturdy and transported beautifully.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Take Marina's class Advanced Fondant Techniques! I learned so much.
Also, I highly recommend Handcrafted Sugar Flowers with Jacqueline Butler.
Both courses are highly enjoyable and very inspiring with great instructors.
