I needed some placemats for everyday use and the ones in the store were disappointing and expensive!

The way that my choice of colors complimented my kitchen table and dishes.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
If you chose to make your placemats out of dark colors like I did, they won't show very many accidents or food spills!
