Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Beyond Basic Machine Quilting »

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Accessory

For: Girls

Style: Cute

Materials

Cotton fabric, 80/20 batting, variegated thread

What was your inspiration?

I wanted to make a quick-pieced quilt for a friend's first grandchild, but I wanted an opportunity to practice my new free motion quilting skills. This big, beautiful floral print in Hannah's mom's favorite color was perfect, also because it hides all of my mistakes!

What are you most proud of?

The quilting - and that I used 20-year-old fabric from my stash for the backing.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Big prints hide many miscues in free motion quilting!

IT'S BEATIFUL! using the same floral print all-over doesn't make me dizzy, as so many moderns do. As a true beginner to quilts and machine quilting you have given me great inspiration. Thanks so much for sharing. I especially love the fabric! :) lenten rose

In some ways it really is too bad the print hides your quilting - from the detail shots, it really looks good!

Thanks, Ann. Next time, I'll be braver. The recipient isn't a quilter, so the quilting would be wasted on her anyway. I had great fun planning and practicing
