Guitar Art Quilt

Instructions

HERE IS WHERE YOU CAN ORDER THE PATTERN FROM THE ORIGINAL ARTIST: http://www.robbieklow.com/books-patterns.asp

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Funky, Whimsical, Mod, Rock / Punk, Retro / Vintage, Hipster, Casual, Cute

Materials

A ton of quilting fabric, fusible web, jaquard fabric paints, metallic thread, poly thread, clear poly thread.

What was your inspiration?

I have a lot of musicians in my family...my dad and my uncle and my son. Add to that, my fiancee and a massive amount of my friends are guitarists. I wanted to do something to pay tribute to that...since i can't play a note. ;^)

What are you most proud of?

I wanted to do something that was outside of my comfort zone...something difficult, challenging and something that I could include fabric painting on. Wish granted on this one!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Use a design wall and get LOTS of pins...you'll need them. Also, masking tape was really handy in getting all the little pieces to stay in place when I took them off the design wall so I could iron them ob to the background fabric. (You can iron over masking tape with no ill effects).

This quilt is awesome but all your quilts are. You have been blessed with knowing your sewing machine and your art taste. Keep up the good work.

I have this book to make the guitar quilt and am researching any tricks to put together before I start and came across your version. I just LOVE it. I am making this for my son, Queen Size quilt, what size is your piece? Again, I just love your fabrics and design, thanks for sharing!

Guys, thanks for all of your comments! I appreciate all of the feedback...but please know that I can't give the pattern to anyone. Not because I don't want to...but because it is copyrighted and not mine to give. Even if I could send it, it's a really large pattern. HERE IS THE WEBSITE WHERE YOU CAN FIND AND PURCHASE THE PATTERN: http://www.robbieklow.com/books-patterns.asp

As much as I would love to share this pattern, it's huge and has to be purchased from Robie Ecklow (I think that's her name's spelling). If you do a Google search, you should be able to find it pretty easily.

My grandson just took up the guitar and I was immediatly drawn to this quilt. So innovative! I'm just afraid that this "Grammy" doesn't have the skill it took to create this one-of-a-kind work of art. Love it though.

One piece of advice if you're going to buy this pattern. It can be pretty hard to follow, so use that old adage of measure twice and cut once. Measure five times! Try to cut your applique pieces very accurately, as they all need to fit together and or overlap. BUT the best thing you can do is embrace your mistakes and run with them. It will produce something you never expected. I honestly started painting this to cover up a bit of fabric that didn't really fit well and love it so much I kept going!

Fabulous. I have been promising my husband a guitar quilt for his music room for quite a long time. I have heaps of 'music' material. Was just going to made squares with an applique guitar in black over the top. Puts my idea to shame.
