9 kudoz

Grandson's finished quilt

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Craftsy Block of the Month 2012 »

Instructions

I used the pattern from Jan block of the Month for 2 of the 4 different blocks I used. I used info from Leah Day's class, Wendy 's class and Quilting Large pieces o a small machine. I had a good time after getting over my initial hesitation to design and make a quilt without a pattern.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Accessory

For: Boys

Style: Cute, Whimsical

Materials

I used quilt shop quality fabric and some of the lesso.ns learned from several Craftsy classes

Heather, they were so much fun! The strips in the border are different widths. I just cut and played. LOL!

Tammie, I set out to get some projects done and I have been knocking them out. I won't start quilting the BOM until after Christmas. How have you been? Merry Christmas to you and your family.

I sewed the binding down using a blanket stitch after watch Leah Day demonstrate this. What a difference it made time wise. Less than an hour instead of several hours to hand sew it down. Pat Sloan also has a demo of this in her books.

It is hard to see the quilting. I did echo stitching on the asterix part of one of the slash blocks, the other slash block I did echo on the triangles and did not like it so I added echo stitching on the asterix part. I did a stiple stich with the fire hydrants and a stich around the dogs and fire engines. One the brder, I did a straight stitch across the paino keys. I gave it to him the other day and he loved it. The back was trains and was cut and sewn together in a random huge block pattern. I forgot to take a picture of that.
