Grandmothers Flower Garden

Pattern Info

Pattern info for this project can be found here:
I have no idea where the pattern came from, maybe just a newspaper or some other material was used.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Children

Materials

This is all cotton. It was hand pieced by my Aunt from scraps of my Grandmother's dress & apron materials. The background is sugar sacks. It was given to me by my Aunt to finish. I hand quilted it and bound it and gave it to my daughter. I call it my learning quilt because after quilting half of it, my Mother showed me a better way and I ended up tearing out the fist half of the quilting and redoing it . I was much happier with the results.

It is indeed lovely! I too am making a GFG quilt, but it will be a modified version... thirty-six flowers on 12" white squares, alternating with thirty-six 12" white squares with colorful machine embroidered designs. The reason: I'm a 'young' 57-year-old, but my hexagons are only 1"... if I try to make an entire quilt, I MAY die first:-). I may attempt a real one when this one is done, but with larger hexagons. Say...4" !!!

Thanks for the offer of fabric, however 2.5 inch squares will not work as I print mine off computer software that I got from Inklingo. It is software I purched.

Just gorgeous. I am in the process of hand piecing a Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt. Each 'flower' is in shades of pink. I have two done by my grandmother, but wanted to make one for myself. Currently I have 42 blocks finished. Hopefully I will get it done before I die. Being 71 years old, it does put the pressure on me. lol Your quilting is lovely and the piecing is beautifully done. Thanks for sharing it.

Cool!! If start another one, let me know. I have scads of 2-1/2" squares that I would gladly share with you. Good luck with putting yours together. I hope to assemble mine with the green diamonds as the connector 'garden path'. It will be some time before I get to that point.
