I started out making a banner for my granddaughter's 4th grade class. That wasn't enough for me so as the months passed I would make more blocks about Califorinia history and attach them to the banner. This way I could meet with my granddaughters for lunch (we live 75 miles apart) to shuttle the banner back and forth. I just drew out the disigns in the size I wanted and machine appligued most of them. The ship in paper pieced, the quilt block patterns are paterns that were around in the 1850's.
