What was your inspiration?

I had a cardboard cut-out of a bird and wanted to use it somehow on the painting... I was only going to put one but I liked it so much that I kept adding more and more!!

What are you most proud of?

It's hard to see in the photos, but I love that this is painted on a scrap piece of wood. I love the simplicity and repetition but if you look closer you can see the details, texture and layers underneath.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Cut out any shape you like out of cardboard or something sturdy. Paint around it creating a pattern. Then go back in and paint inside the shape with colors that you like. I used a palette knife and purposely painted "sloppy" inside the birds. I also left a few birds unpainted so the wood and background details could show through. The license plate letters are the focal point... just screw or nail in place! :)
