I searched for dino clip art pictures and manipulated them to the size I wanted. Then I designed the quilt blocks sized to fit the applique pictures. I had to tweak both the images sizes and the block sizes before I was finished. Then came the process of picking out different background fabrics that would go well with the dark blue dino print I wanted to use in the border and for the backing. Next I picked out fabrics (from my stash) for the dinos that would complement the border fabric and contrast well with the backgrounds. To finish the design stage I needed to decide on and add little elements like grass, trees, etc, to fill in excess "white space." From there the process was the mechanics of applique, block and sashing construction, and finally quilting and labeling the quilt. Partially because of the design time and time needed for manipulating clip art (I can't draw), this quilt took me 63 hours to complete. This is actually the first time I have kept track of the hours I spent on a project--it may be my last time to do so.
