boys and geckos dreaming
Butterfly fabric from my stash
full single bed quilt
purple/green gecko

Instructions

I just made this up using hexagons and drew and appliqued the geckos and butterflies - no pattern as such!

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Children

Style: Funky

Materials

100% cotton fabric and thread, polyester batting

What was your inspiration?

This was my first ever quilt and took me a year of handpiecing hexagons. I made it back in 2004 when my son was small but he still loves it :) He liked lots of dramatic colours so we used bright scraps and also cut up old clothes that he loved that were too small to make hexagons, He had a thing about geckos at the time so we appliqued them over the finished quilt, then I had it professionally stipple quilted because I hadnt worked out how to quilt yet! :)

What are you most proud of?

That I actually finished it - a bit of a challenge for a first quilt :)

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

be patient and make lots of hexagons !

Wow!!! That's a lot of hexagons! I am currently working on my first Grandmother's Flower Garden Quilt top, using English Paper piecing---1" size hexagons. I expect it to take me about a year to complete the top. I KNOW you put a lot of time into this quilt!
