So easy! The really important things I found:1. Be really careful about matching seams.
2. Be aware that there's a lot of sewing pieces together on the bias - just be careful not to stretch the edges.
Difficulty:
Category: Quilting
Type of item: Functional
For: Home
Style: Casual
Materials
One jellyroll of fabric, scraps of calico, a cheap polarfleece blanket,
What was your inspiration?
I'd never tried using a jelly roll for quilting before and wanted to have a go. Saw this beautiful combination at the Perth Craft and Quilt Fair a couple of weeks ago and jumped at it.
The interest in this for me was in the piecing technique, rather than actually quilting it, so I decided to just use a $6 polarfleece blanket from Spotlight as a combined wadding/backing. It will be a great throw on my couch this winter.
What are you most proud of?
Managing the bias seams without the whole quilt top buckling.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Don't be tempted to start sewing blocks into strips until all blocks are completed. Then you can arrange the blocks as you like to get a good balance and colour direction.
