What was your inspiration?

This project has a long and complicated past. It began when I found a deer horn in the local park, someone had carved it into a point at one end. The horn was all curved and white and made me think of a unicorn horn. At that point I decided I had to go as a unicorn for halloween. After a long time deciding between white and black, bell bottoms or skirt I finally chose to make a tiered lace skirt, it had to be flowy. For added flow, I made wing-like sleeves out of chiffon and attached them to a cream jersey top I made. Upon trying on the entire costume I realized I looked just like Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine. Seeing this, I scraped the original concept and went with this. Other ideas are victorian bride (though, not historically accurate enough for me to go along with this) or ghost bride.

The top is jersey with chiffon sleeves. The skirt is a jersey base with tiers of lace. Each of those tiers took so long to create, it was a pain, but so worth it. I can see myself wearing this skirt in normal situations, its so much fun to wear. The floaty sleeves are also great fun.

The lace bib is from my boyfriends dressing up box, so I guess vintage.
