sport weight washable yarn

What was your inspiration?

I used a softly variegated yarn to play up the zigzag movement in the bias lace pattern along the edges, offset by the diagonally-knitted center. Of course, the blanket would be equally lovely in a solid color if you prefer a more classic, less casual look. The blanket shown was knitted in Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sport, color Layette.

What are you most proud of?

Start with just a bit of lacy pattern knitted circularly to dress up the outer edges of this utilitarian beauty. Then the center is knitted back and forth in garter stitch on the diagonal, forming a square to fill in the center of the baby blanket while attaching itself to the edging at the same time. No seams to sew!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

34" square blanket. 1000 yards sport weight washable yarn. Size US 6 / 4 mm needles recommended for gauge of 5 stitches/inch over lace stitch pattern.
