What was your inspiration?
My grandmother's flower garden was my inspiration. I loved the vivid colors, the random shapes and the feel of peace I had sitting in the garden. Even though she planted her flowers in a specific area the beauty of their blooms was random and each time I looked at her garden I saw a different flower that I hadn't seen before. My grandmother used to say the fairies left her the flowers each spring and she never knew where they might pop up from year to year. That's how I got the name of this quilt "Fairy Dust". This pattern allows your eye to land on a different spot each time you look at the quilt.
What are you most proud of?
I love the way the trailing vines on the border turned out. They look like a trail of fairy dust.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Arrange your cut blocks in several different ways before you settle on your final arrangement. Let yourself have some fun playing with your colors and patterns on the fabric. Use lots of different fabric in coordinating colors for a "blended" look.
