Eco cloth pads

Pattern Info

This project was designed by SylvChezPlum.
Info can be found at:

Make your own menstrual cloth pads »

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Functional

For: Women

Style: Funky, Casual

Materials

A fat quarter of designer fabric for outside layer, and only RECYCLED materials for the inside layers. :-)

What was your inspiration?

When I started to realise how much garbage the disposable pads produced in the life of a woman, I decided I needed to change.

I looked online, saw ones I liked, but with features I liked less... so I made my own pattern, experimented and finally published my own pattern :-)

What are you most proud of?

The fact that these are twice eco-friendly:

By washing them instead of using disposable ones, it's less garbage

AND I used mostly recycled materials for them, so they're CHEAP to make !! :-)

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Try and you will never look back !! They are very EASY to make and CARE for, and I have included lots of information and tips on how to wash them.

All my friends who have tried them are now enthusiastic about making their own pads !

I have used cloth pads frequently and although it requires some creativity at work or in public places they are very comfortable and work really well.

I just can't imagine going back to plastic/disposable pads any more. They work fantastic for me, and the nice thing is that I have all sorts of pads, with thicker and longer ones for my heaviest flow..

How well do these actually absorb. What do you fill them with? Great idea....first time I have seen anything like this.

This is very interesting, and I'd love to try this myself, I've tried to download your pattern, but it won't open. Can you help me? Thanks Terri
