Diamonds Down Under

Instructions

This one involves cutting diamonds with a strip piecing technique.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Women

Style: Traditional

Materials

I used Australian Aboriginal fabrics and combined them with Kona Cotton Solids

What was your inspiration?

I love the look of diamonds and wanted to create something unique by just playing with the color. This is were the secondary zig zag came into play and I love the result. I loved it so much, I made it my cell phone case!!

What are you most proud of?

This was a design that I created for Quilt Magazine and it was published last spring! I have been designing and publishing patterns with them for 2.5 years and this is one of my favorite designs.

Also, I am in love with the quilting that I did on this quilt. See the close up photos. I also teach this class.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Choose the right colors to create that secondary zig zag effect.

should be 4 rows of purple-- not 34!

LOVELY, truly lovely bedquilt, Jackie, befitting of your excellent sense of color and design! Your creative diamond motif of 34 vertical rows of purple alternating with 3 rows of turquoise -- surrounded by alternating larger/wider vertical rows of patterned diamonds in similar hues of purples, hot pinks & blues is unique. I like the lavender background and the fact that you used triangles in the border trim. I'd LOVE this cover on my bed, Jackie!

Thank you so much! I really enjoyed designing this one and using the Australian prints combined with the Kona solids. Can you tell that pink is a favorite color of mine?
