Groovyghan by Tracy St John »

Difficulty:

Category: Crocheting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Women

What was your inspiration?

Saw this pattern that someone had made and fell in love with it! This is a free pattern on Ravelry called Groovyghan by Tracy St. John. I want to make another one and change the straight section of color bars to a ripple. I also changed the flower and used KrochetKrystal's charity daisy pattern. Fun, fun pattern. This one went to my daughter, Debbie

What are you most proud of?

Getting the edging right! I think I would change the edging on the next one

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Lay all you blocks out before sewing them together to make sure you don't have 2 colors the same next to each other

I'm just a beginning crocheter...how long (approx) did it take you to make this??
Lynn Wolfe on craftsy.com
Apr 06, 2012   Flag as inappropriate
This took me several weeks, probably 2 to 3. I have been crocheting for about 40 years though. This is not a hard project for a beginner. You can take the original pattern and really make it any way you want. Good luck

Thats so pretty. I am a beginner and I am going to try it. I have mastered a granny square, so i hope it is easy. i am still having trouble reading directions, so i have to break it down....but i am having fun. I wished i would of spent more time w/ granma, she was really good at this.... Love the web site.

I made mine, thanks for the pattern. I made it for a church friend. I used some of our Church Childrens directors late moms squares, and the rest of the squares were donated from some of the other church members that crochet or knit. I made some as well. I put it together, it was not as straight as I would have liked it to be, but She loved it. I made some pillows to go with it too. took one square on each side of pillow, used the technique for the edging of the groovyghan, and it was awesome. So thanks for sharing your pattern. We gave it to her for Christmas, her daughter said when she passes, she has dibbs on that groovyghan. awwwwww.

I'm working on mine now. I decided to make each one of the strips 2 times to make an even bigger blanket out of it. I know I'll have to do some math when it comes to the edging, but that's okay. I will say the flower squares are the most time consuming - I might have preferred the daisy pattern (although the texture you get from the flower squares is pretty neat). I am looking forward to getting it finished: it will be the show piece of my living room!

Love it! Question: With all the color changes how do you end the colors. I pick up the new color and crochet it into the blanket, then I weave the end into the blanket. The problem is, the ends seem to peek out some times. How did you end each color. I was always told not to knot the yarn.
Lynn Wolfe on craftsy.com
Sep 15, 2011   Flag as inappropriate
I do the same as you do. I get little ends peeking out too. I was at my daughter's last week and the blanket was on her couch and I sat there clipping some peeking ends! lol When I weave the ends in I try to split the yarn I am weaving into then weave back again. Seems to lock them better
