What was your inspiration?

I always wanted to HAND-quilt a quilt. I also wanted something to do while I watched movies on TV (I can never just sit there .... I need to be knitting, crocheting, ironing, etc), and I wanted to do something different than I usually did. I found the cross-stitch quilt squares at my local store, and stitched them up. I loved the flower pattern and thought that this would be the perfect project for hand quilting. I've never hand quilted before. I am used to cutting, sewing and finishing a project in less than 72 hours. This was NOT one of those projects. However, I am thrilled with the results and am happy it is finished!

What are you most proud of?

I attempted to hand quilt and FINISHED it. It was the one project that I picked up and put down a hundred times, but the results are beautiful and I'm very happy with the way it turned out.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

If you want to try something new or a new technique - GO FOR IT! I'm very glad I completed this project. It was challenging at times (I still haven't mastered quilting using a thimble and my fingers paid for it) but I'm proud of myself for taking on this challenge.

I like what you've done here! I am making a quilt as a wedding present with the same cross stitched blocks, only it will be a king sized quilt. Did you interface the blocks before putting them into the quilt top? I'm not sure if I need to do that. I don't know how to handle the issue of removing the blue ink so I can iron the blocks before I put them into the a quilt top. I don't need the lines to quilt, I plan to do outline quilting, but I'm concerned about getting the size of the blocks consistent once the blue markings are gond.

I just quilted along the blue lines, and it turned out nicely. I ironed them before I quilted it, and they were no problem. The blue lines disappear when you wash it, and that's what happened. It was washed AFTER the entire quilt was completed. I did not use interfacing or any other stabalizing materials, I just used cotton fabric and it turned out nicely. :) Good luck!
