What was your inspiration?
I have trouble finding ready-made clothes as I am 6'1" tall with some fitting difficulties. I wanted to try couture sewing techniques and try fitting myself, but I didn't want to spend a ton of money on a fancy fabric that I would have no place to wear the dress. When I saw this fabric, I decided to use it, and even though I was told it wouldn't work because of the "spandex" factor, I loved the print, and I took Kenneth King's advice (see his book, Cool Couture,) and ignored the judgement of others.
What are you most proud of?
I had never tried putting a zipper in by hand - great technique! Matching the print was a fun and exciting challenge. I'm thrilled with the outcome.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Take it one step at a time, enjoy the process. Do not try to do this class with a deadline approaching. Do it for fun the first time. This dress took many hours!
