This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
The Couture Dress »

Instructions

Fitting takes time but is worth it for a great dress

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Plus-sized

Materials

at the muslin point. dress will be made using a Maggy London floral cotton

What was your inspiration?

The opportunity to learn from Susan Khalje. I need the visual learning style and Susan makes it all seem like it is doable.

What are you most proud of?

Getting a very nice fit on the bust. It may not look like it on the dress form, but after several attempts, the top fits beautifully. Plus size fitting is so challenging that I plan to use this muslin with thread tracing method often.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Watch all the videos so you know and understand where you are going. Also, take your time. If you get frustrated, walk away. Listen to Susan's warning about the wax - it can be messy.

Your dress is gorgeous. You did a great job on the fit. I just received my pattern, not sure when I will be able to get at it. Love your fabric it is so fresh. Great job.

I should have posted photos on the day I wore it with hair, makeup and spanx. LOL Thanks for all the nice comments. We need more plus sized reviews.

That happens to most of us Kathy and I can imagine how gorgeous you would have looked in this dress when you were all dressed up and ready to go out. I love the fabric you chose and it looks like you got a great fit as well :)

This just goes to show that when a dress is properly fitted, it looks great on any figure. I am plus sized as well and you have given me the courage to step out of my comfort zone. Love this fun summery frock.

Thank you soooo much for posting this! I was wondering how the flared skirt would look where I am also plus-sized and it looks terrific! You did a great job and now I am looking forward to making mine! Your fabric choice is becoming too!

People advised me that as a plus sized woman to stay with the straight skirt. I am happy I went with the fuller skirt too

Thanks. This is one of the classes I most often go back to for review of the thread tracing and fitting areas.

I love the color of your dress. I think the full skirt was a great choice as the vertical lines make you look taller. Lots of work and an awesome dress!!!

Lovely. Plus sizes are hard to find the style that flatters and the right fabric. You look so nice in that bright floral fabric--it looks so summery! Congrats on a finishing your project.

thank you. I wanted to post plus size because there are so few. I was afraid of a fuller skirt but got lots of compliments

I am not happy about the camera angle, but that is the best I could get without a helper.

Cant wait to get started. 'My" Photo reflects fabrics from the south of France, an inspiration to use colour.

Well done on getting this far! Will you be going with the full skirt or the strait skirt?

I am trying to decide which skirt. I am thinking the full skirt with the fabric posted and the straight skirt with a nice wool I have
