What materials did you use? Printed Cotton Twill

What are you most proud of? Increasing the pattern size and getting a good fitting muslin I can use over again. Doing my own bia binding ... I think it gives this simple dress a really nice finish.

What advice would you give someone starting this project? Check the pattern is straight with the grainline of the pattern before cutting and sewing the fabric ... or buy better fabric

Nice dress. Where did you get the pattern? Or is 20 years old as well? How wide was your bias binding?

Thanks ... The pattern is New Look 6939 and yes it is 20 years old cut out in a size 10 ... very easy only 2 pieces and two front darts. I made my bia binding 30mm (1 1/4") which was a bit thin given the weight of the fabric.

Beautifully made dress! Resizing the pattern would require lots of thought and care. Your Mum must be very proud of you and happy to wear this pretty print for your warm holidays.

Making a muslin helps alot with resizing as you can adjust up and down if it's wrong. We let it out a bit more on the hips and altered the neckline and position of the straps a little. Even tho we did the muslin fitting Mum has now decided this dress is too short at her age (66), which is good cause I am making her the class dress for a wedding and I would hate to get this the wrong length.

I like the shift dress too! It reminds me of my younger days when "shifts" were something to wear everywhere. You stated that is was an older pattern with front, back and the darts, was there a zipper involved?
