Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Design It, Quilt It: Free-Form Techniques »

Instructions

For the design I used plates from my kitchen to draw the circles. For the compass and background grid I used a ruler. I used a little bit of a garland to line out the form underneath the compass and did the feathers freehand after that. In the middle I made a flower as a focalpoint.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Traditional, Romantic, Classic

Materials

Lightgrey cotton fabric, blue christmas cottonfabric for the backing, lightblue and varigated blue polyester threads, batting.

What was your inspiration?

The wholeclothe of Cindy Needham inspired me and also other students of the course. I didn't know that it would be a finished Quilt from the start. That's why I choosed the old Christmascurtain as backing. :)

What are you most proud of?

That I finished the Quilt and really made all of that FMQ. I learned a lot and also to start and stop the way Cindy teaches.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

To go with the process and rely on your feeling. You don't necessary have to make your mind up about the whole design when you starts quilting.

Oh, my! That's amazing! I can't make a FMQ straight line to save my soul and yours if just full of beautiful long rows of evenly spaced stitches. Love the entire pattern and all the tiny filler details. You've inspired me to get busy with practice, practice, and more practice.

My heart just dropped when I saw it, it is so beautiful. Then I got to look at the details and I am even more impressed. Besides the design, your background is so wonderful and the feathers going under the star really truly go under the star. I would never think of enough words to tell you how much I like this and how inspirational it is.

Beautiful and the back looks just as beautiful as the front. It would be hard to choose which is the front and which is the back. Thanks for sharing.

I am very impressed by what you created. Especially because I am fairly new to freee motion quilting and find it difficult. but Ii will continue and overcome my frustration. How long have you been free motion quiltiing?

two years perhaps, but very infrequently. I am not so productive and I do not exercise very often. I'm glad that no one gets close enough to inspect the stitches. But the mist importen thing is that's fun and I'm krattning.
