Instructions

Materials

#10 white cotton thread, #3 gold metallic thread, crystal and gold beads.

What was your inspiration?

I was looking at our church's communion set and there was no covering over the bread. I went home that afternoon and designed this doily. I knew it needed something more. The next day I went to our local hobby store, found some gold thread, and crocheted a cross. I attached it to the doily, and voila, a Communion Bread Plate Cover. I also made a Communion Cup Cover. Just a slightly different pattern for the doily and beads on the outer rim to keep it sliding into the cup. The Cup Cover makes a wonderful ringing sound as it is removed from the Cup.

What are you most proud of?

The fact that I designed the doilies myself. I had never designed any thing before.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Know how to increase in the round. It took me a long time and a lot of "frogging" to get the doilies to lay flat.
