Share a little about the materials, processes and techniques used to create this cake: This cake was inspired by Jessica Harris, though I think the Bride found it on the web and sent me the photo to replicate. I made the flower from about 60 petals made from gum paste that I made from fondant and tylose. I dried the petals on an egg crate, luckily I had 3 that held 24 eggs each! Once I assembled the flower with royal icing and then for added insurance I covered the back of the flower with royal as well. I then used the tip Jessica gave us of using a bowl covered with saran wrap so the flower dried curved and not flat. The cake itself is 4 layers with a foam core in between, covered it with buttercream, then fondant. The chevron pattern is made from modeling chocolate and I used the template from the lesson that I doubled in height so it would fit the cake and it worked great. I used a thin straw inserted in the cake so put the flower stem in for added support. I think it turned out lovely, and love the craftsy cake classes, even though I've been decorating cakes for 33 years I always learn something from these classes and enjoy them very much.
