What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Prepare the Chiffon shapes ahead of time & make extras as there will be breakages.
I drew a leaf shape and filled that shape with an embroidery type pattern. Make sure that the pattern touches the outer shape in several places, the more places it touches the stronger the finished shape will be..
That image was then copied until I had the right amount.
I cut the images out, stuck them to a bottle & covered the whole thing with cling film. I then taped chiffon over the cling film & iced straight on to the chiffon with royal icing. the outer edge was double piped for strength. After piping fix pearls onto the design with a dab of icing. Leave for several days to go really hard.
Using a craft knife cut the chiffon as close to the border of the icing as possible & remove the shape from the bottle.
For the butterfly I piped wings on to a chiffoned & cling-filmed board & removed when dry. The wings were then trimmed & fixed to a piped body. They were also allowed to dry before removing & being placed on the cake.
