Celebrate! Belize Anniversary

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Thread Art »

Instructions

I used several pictures from our anniversary trip to Belize.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Other

Style: Classic

Materials

quilting cotton fabric, black Aurifil thread, Crayon d'Arche water-soluable pastels, textile medium, fabric paint and paint extender, beads, charms, and a seahorse

What was your inspiration?

I love sea turtles and am always excited when we see one when we are snorkeling. We celebrated our 40th anniversary by going to Belize. We stayed 4 days at Turneffe Island Resort which is 1 1/2 hours away from the mainland by boat. The snorkeling is amazing and the beach outside our room is my "happy place."

What are you most proud of?

I like the way the stitching turned out and the layering of colors that Lola taught in the class.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Do what Lola says: just go for it. When you make a mistake--that's OK! Just keep on going!

I was afraid of the Sharpie, but I used the really fine line one and it was fine. My thread was pretty fine, also, and I freaked the first time I went out of the Sharpie line (pretty soon after I started!!) but I said to myself "Lola said to not worry about it" so I went on, and you know, it REALLY didn't matter because once it is colored, those biffs don't show AT ALL. So do what she says and just go for it! Thanks, Lola, you are an inspiration.
