Washington Wall-hanging

Instructions

This pattern is found in the book Rose Windows for Quilters, by Angela Besley.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Classic

Materials

2 x 54 inch black cotton fabric; 54 inch sq batting; a ton of my favorite bright-colored fabrics; Steam-A-Seam2 fusable web; template plastic.

What was your inspiration?

I was inspired by the thought of using a myriad of my favorite fabrics, which happen to be very bright, all in one project.

What are you most proud of?

I'm proud of the overall "wow" effect of this wallhanging -- although it is really just the fabrics speaking for themselves.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Have fun -- audition your favorite brights and go for it.

How did you get two 54" pieces of cotton fabric when most cottons come in 42" widths? Did you have to piece it to get it to that size? I just purchased the book Rose Windows and can't wait to get started but getting a 54" solid piece is a big stumbling block. Thanks for your help.

Hi! Sorry I've been away from Craftsy for so long -- the resort has been super busy... Yes, I had to piece it together to get it that big. I see you wrote this in June, and today is July 20th, so how are you doing on this project? Is it coming along? I hope you're having fun! Make sure you post a picture!

I haven't started yet but will definitely post a picture when I'm done. I was thinking of purchasing a piece of 108" backing fabric and using it. Thanks for the reply.

Spectacular quilt. I'll have to search out the pattern. I'm blogging about my attempt to sew through my stash by the end of the year, and this would be a great way to showcase some of my bright fabrics. Thank you for sharing.

What an incredible stain glass quilt!! You combined batiks and florals perfectly. I don't think it could be done any more perfectly. Congratulations!

Surfside6 put some fabric softener on an old cloth and clean your iron with that, when it has cooled down a bit of course

WOW, WOW, WOW...that is an awesome quilt. I absolutely LOVE IT!! It inspires me to try doing my own design. I have lots of batik scraps that would be perfect for this project.

Batiks are my favorite! And florals are a close second... This was totally fun to make. It's more cutting and ironing-on than sewing, but was a nice change of pace. :)
